WOOHOO! WE GRADUATED...NOW IT'S UP TO YOU (THE UNDERCLASSMEN) TO KEEP IT GOIN! ;)

As most of you know the class of 09 graduated not to long ago.WOOHOOO! As we worked our way through those 3 years we took along every piece of knowledge that was givin to us to each grade. Now the knowledge that our 8th grade teachers had passed on to us will be used to it's full extent in high school. I would like to say thanks! to all the teachers that made graduating for me possible. Such as... Mr.Locker, Ms.Shah, Ms.Scinta, Ms.Charles, Ms.Covert, Ms.Rowe Small, Ms.Peynado, Ms.Esther, and so much more who helped me get through my learning struggles,as well as life struggles. What I have to say to you... the next generation...is to keep faith, and try your hardest in what your learning. Also never say "I can't do it",cause your teacher,and your peers,are there to help you, and you could do anything you set your mind to. If we could do it...SO CAN YOU!! It's up to YOU, as the new 8th graders to keep the tradition going, and next it will be the 7th graders, and on and on and on... BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE!, IF SOMEONE SAYS YOUR STUPID OR WRONG...PROVE THEM WRONG WITH YOUR MIND SKILLS, AND YOUR SCHOOL WORK!!. This post isn't to put pressure on you girls and guys, but to motivate you to do what you have to to make yourself a better, and smarter person. And also to let you in on a lil secret... The more your teachers test you and make things harder on you, your gonna feel like they don't want you to succeed. BUT OOPS ARE YOU MISTAKEN!!... they are testing you.. to see if you have potential. All your teachers want you to succeed!..if they didn't want you to succeed they wouldn't be there to teach you! DON'T GIVE IN TO PRESSURE! If you do, it'll only make things harder!... Also (my last remark, I know it's alot but bear with me..LoL) Be aware of your actions and how you treat others,and how you treat yourself, cause your actions comes with consequences, weather they're good or bad,they come with them...so make sure you do what's right for you and everyone around you...

Well, as you can see answer choice D was the write* answer (Hehe). But one of mine and Chrissy's favorite thing to do is to write. Theres a whole bunch of different types of writing. Though our writing isnt the best we've have grown a super bunch this year.

Chrissy: Probably because of all the writing Mr. Locker makes us do...

Chrissy and I do most of our writing in school. We write in Spanish for Senorita Coverts clase. We write out equations and what not for Ms. Charles's class and of course we write deep and and soul full journals for Lockers class. But the most soul full writing we've done this year was in Ms. Shah's Communication Arts class. In this class we explored poetry and we helped the people in our class become better poets and writers.


In My first 2 years of middle school I didn't really like to write all that much. I think it was because I wasn't really good at it. When I reached 8th grade I realized that we would be doing a lot of writing but i also realized that it wasn't a joke and it was time to grow up. Mr. Locker helped us a lot buy spending time explaining and showing us how to write better and clearer.

Chrissy: word.

As 8th grade progressed we did indeed write more than the other years in middle school. We did things like write papers about different topics. This was my favorite writing assignments that we did because we got to explore our own writing styles. Mr.Locker also taught us transitions words later on in he year. These trantsition words helps our writing flow and made our writing look and sound smarter.=)

Chrissy: Like... In conclusion, Although, and my favorite however!

Another thing that helped me write better was Student Council. In S.C you do a lot of dealing with the adults in our school and If you want to be taken seriously you have to write a killer e-mail to the staff. One mistake can change the way people see you. Chrissy and I have had a bunch of experience with writing to the staff. We also realized that it helps you speak better.

Chrissy and I have grown as writers and we hope that our writing skill will stick with us on our way to High School so we can succeed and what not =)

OH SNAP! Writing! =]

Well, as I consider myself to be a strong reader, I find not only in my school work but in my heart,that I am a better writer .I feel as if my writing has evolved while I traveled through the experience of 8th grade. At the beginning of this long and interesting year,the "writer's block" that I had faced was challenging,and, quite boring actually. What I was desperate for was to free my thoughts from the prison inside my head."How can I do this?" was the question I always seemed to ask myself, when I got stuck in the midst of a brainstorm. When I began to doubt myself as a writer was when I realized it was about time I let everyone around me,in on how strong my creativeness is,and how intelligent I could be. To move beyond my "writer's block" I started writing without thinking. My question to myself (with the help of Locker) became "why am I making this more difficult than it needs to be?". When I finally re leaved Chrissy Mendez of the urge to be perfect,my writing became more influential. The writing that I once called bland and boring,transformed into one big ball of facts,personality,and most of all the ability to make you think,and make you say "WOW". No I don't believe my writing is the best and doesn't need work,because the more I work on my writing the more interesting it gets. (By the way,it's still very good! Lol) In order to for me to feel really confident with my writing I had to work on it all year. I took positive criticism from teachers and peers. (which was also a challenge cause I don't like criticism..lol) Two classes that I would say that are special to me and that I used to my advantage is Communication Arts and Humanities. I feel this because in Communication arts we are/have been working on poetry,and when I am writing poetry I push myself out of my comfort zone and put everything out on the paper. (By the way RECYCLE!=])I use vocabulary that makes my words stand out and mean more. The poetry that I work hard on also teaches me to break free from boringness and helps me to have more of a voice. I also feel humanities helped me with my writing skills because I was learning how to responed to texts/historical texts,like the DBQ! (Man was that challenging)But as I developed and progressed I started to put my opinion , and basically myself into each response. The more I tried to make my writing have more of a voice the more my writing seem to make sense. People were also starting to think of me differently. They started to think of me not as the the "young immature Chrissy" but as the "intelligent Chrissy with much maturity". This was the result of me growing as a writer and as a person. I don't really face any challenges with my writing at the moment,but I know that I will later on and that I will do my best to over-come...

OMG! Chrissy Reads

Since September 8th, the first day of school there has been non-stop reading for me (or for anyone) till this very day. When I first started reading this year, was the day that I walked through Mr. Locker's classroom. However, my "skills" of reading didn't escalate as soon as I was blessed with the opportunity of Locker's class. I soon found out that while I was reading, I never paid attention to the wonderful story the books were telling me. I felt like I was just reading books for sport,and that I was breezing through them like football players running fast to an end zone. I started to try and come up with a solution to my struggle. SO... what I came up with was to see how others analyzed a book. I used the opportunity of our class reading of "The Outsiders" to my advantage. While I listened to my fellow classmates,and Locker read, I payed the most attention then I ever did for anything. The more I listened, the more I learned. When I read out loud, I started to exaggerate what came out of the book, through my eyes, and into my slimy brain. I st arted to drag words if the font was in Italic. As I made my way up the mountain of reading success, I started to feel strong inside as a reader. Not only did I start understanding books, this strategy helped me understand different text, and helped my vocabulary grow. When I finally felt this good confidence inside me, I broke out of my shell and made my way from small books to medium sized to large. Now that I've gone through this struggle and after a long year of reading, I continue to challenge myself with confusing and difficult books. The main struggle for me now is reading different genres. I now have to break through this wall of Realistic Fiction to get to the world of a variety of genres. I plan on working my way out of this jam in my next year of school.

Read Me...

Reading is my life. Its like my heroin, that's how addicting it is to me. I'm always caught up in a book and if i'm not in reading a book i'm reading a magazine or reading on the web. Just like Chrissy, I get so bored if I don't have a new book to read. I know im not the best reader in the world ( probably the best on Mars) and I have some things to improve, But what I do know is that I've improved and grown as a reader compared to the beginning of 8th grade. I think I got my frist library card at nine months, yeah I know crazy young. When I got old enough to read I spent all my time in the local library. Its was a really nice place with colorful seats and tiny tables. I read a lot with my mom at night and when I got older i read chapter books all my myself. Some of my all time favorite kid books were any book that was written by Mercer Mayer and Junie B. Jones. In each grade I gradually moved to bigger sized books and by the end of 7th grade started reading more young adult books. But it wasn't until the beginning of 8th grade that Loretta and I would go to the library almost every day and go book hunting. I would come home with stacks of books to crack open and fill my brain with em'. This was before I joined Student Council and Film Club so all I would do was read, read, and read some more. More into 8th grade Mr. Locker pushed me to read bigger books and books that are more mature and serious. I tried "The Book Thief" and "To Kill A Mocking Bird". Unfortunately these books we're to difficult and wasn't quite ready for them. After a couple failed attempts at books my mom got me hooked on the "Twilight Saga" and I became an official Twilighter=). I also realized that reading series was my thang. Even now I try to read series like The "Blue Is For Nightmares" series.
Besides the type of books I read I've also improved in the ways I read and how I respond. I try my best to think critically while reading and responding better when I do my journals. One thing that helped my think critically was our class reading of "The Outsiders". Of course theres always room for improvement but I have a feeling that I'm going to stick with the reading junk and you'll see me with a book in heaven.... or hell >:)
